Pananma City, FL Fishing

Post  Turbo on Thu Aug 04, 2011 12:32 am

Does anyone know any good fishing boats in Panama City Florida?

I am planning a trip and want to get in some deep sea or bay fishing.

If you don't know of any good boats/charters, let me know what I should be looking for in a good trip. I have never been in deep sea.

I know NOTHING about Florida panhandle fishing, but I can tell you that offshore will probably be more fun. Keep in mind that most charters charge by the hour + gas, so sometimes running just a few miles out is your best bet. Off the Texas coast you need to get 10+ miles out to really hit blue water, but I'm guessing Florida is a bit different.
Any decent guide will put you on fish, so do a little research and see who is recommended for the area.

I just got back from Panama City Beach, FL today and had a blast. I ended up going with McGowan Charters which was a nice boat and tons of fun. Staff was really great too. If anyone is looking for a private boat in that area, I would recomend checking them out.

My girlfriend and I hooked 1 bonita and 4 king mackerel but lost one because the wire leader broke when we got it to the boat.

Bonita are not very big compared to the other fish we got. They are in the same family as tuna but much smaller and less tasty. Actually, the crew and a few other locals said the meat is horrible, so I donated mine for shark chum.

Here is a picture for comparison.

Good looking fish man...I'm jealous of the view you had down there!

If I ever find myself in Panama City, I'll be sure to check out McGowan
